Most likely it is. I guess we don't have enough tractors to pull our trailers. In that case, the driver just drops them off at our yard and the shuttle driver or yard dog brings them to us.
From what I'm hearing ... if it's the same stuff ... the driver has to unload the freight at different post ..... It could be different , not really sure
Yea we have that too. Depends on what the recieving office wants to do. Usually but not always. Certain trucking companies will be scheduled to drive in, register with the Receiving Office, issued a door, and be expected to help unload and sort the trailer or hire a lumping service. They are pretty reasonable, I think but what do I know. If the lumping service is hired, Most of the time the broker pays for it, has the driver make out a comm check or t check and handle it that way. Lumper Service quotes a price, Driver calls dispatch or broker. Broker gets ammount and check routing numbers. Usually do not have any problems unless the carrier is one of those who doesn't care about their drivers or is too cheap.
These carriers are but not limited to; Fedex freight, Tony's express, Coastal Pacific, SAIA, Western Regional, Golden Eagle, Caroll Fulmer, Dawes, Bestway, Reddaway, Swift, JBHunt, Schneider, Watkins, DATS and probably a few others whose names are escaping me at the moment. Some of these carriers pay the driver extra to unload the freight, where others go through the lumper service. Some of the drivers will bring their own lumpers usually out of Labor ready.
Others are drops like Roadway, Overnite, Motor Cargo, UPS freight, Landstar, Cox, Interstate, Yellow, and of course our own trailers, and all overseas containers (they usually come in on rail).
Looks like AAFES fits in both categories. Mostly General freight and Food whse but we also have Electronics and of course we are military.
There is another whse up the street on the base called GSA (Government Services Association, I think, that might deal with some of the stuff that we don't deal with, like military equipment, explosives, Radioactive and probably some other stuff. Sometimes the merchandise gets mixed up and sent to us by mistake. Which sucks especially if mdse is on the tail of the trailer. Driver has to go to them to unload it. If it is on a drop trailer, we send it back as a misroute. Too many shippers forget to look at the buliding number in the address.
I didnt want to get up either today, so i did. Got my son ready for school and he missed the bus. My husband forgot to remove the carseat from his car so i guess he gets a free day. Joy for me.
