I learned a new word today

About four weeks ago .....  I decided it was time for a set of brakes on my rear trailer axle .....   So 700 bucks later ....    I had new brake shoes, new drums and new wheel seals .....

Drove from Georgia to New Mexico .....   And had to replace one of the new wheel seals ....    now all my clean brake work is cover in grease and I had to clean all that up .....

So today ...   I'm checking out things when I get into Las Vegas ....   and the same wheel seal is blown again .....

and thats when I learned my new word ...

I can't pronounce it ....   nor can I spell it ...

But it sounds just like you were saying four cuss words all at once ....

Oh well ....

Well 468 bucks later ... that I did not have to pay for .... I'm fixed .... I hope ..

The main nut that holds every thing on was loose .... messed up the wheel seal, bearings , races and New brake shoes ... all replaced under warranty ...

Scary thing is ... Is that yesterday had me dropping off Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado ... That place peaks out at over 12,000 feet ..... 9 miles of 7% down grade. I only had 1 farm tractor left to deliver .....

I bet if I was still fully loaded ... I would have lost that set of duals about half way down ....

So much for letting the experts fix it ....

Holly Shit!!!! No brakes or even half brakes on a big rig does not sound good at all....Thank God nothing bad happened (besides the annoying down time and $$$$ )....

funny thing ..... Trying to figure out my ABS on the trailer ..... wondering why every time I would get the sensors set and it working again ..... then quit .... I finally took it to the shop today .....

they would fix it .... it would work sitting in the bay ... I would drive around to pay the bill ... and it was broke again .... 3 times we did this ...... So finally .....

We jack up the rear axle ... the same one that started this thread .... push on the wheel set and watch it shake back and forth .... The damn thing was loose again ....

So off comes the hub .. close inspection ........ every thing looks good ... so they pull the C ring that locks every thing down out ... and start looking at it ... ?????

Wipe the grease off of it .... and boldly in printed right on the locking rind .....THIS SIDE OUT .....

Any guess which side was facing in ..... So torque the wheels that were falling off again ... and I say ..... check the other side to be safe ... Because they if you remember.... they did a complete brake and wheel seal job on this axle less then a month ago .....

Yup .... C- ring in back wards ... wheel loose ... rocking back and forth .... so I say damn ... lets pull the front axle hubs .... sure enough ... a wheel seal I had replaced about a year ago ... C=ring in back wards .... fucking thing loose ....

So six of my eight tires on my trailer were wobbling down the road because shops that won't allow drivers to be in the work area are putting my wheel bearings in wrong .... no freaking wonder it takes two to three times to get a wheel seal to hold .... I've been going nuts try to figure out why .... but now I know ... I hope ...

Damn Kat ... Hurry up and become a mechanic

BTW ... getting this fixed has put me almost two days behind ...... putting a wheel seal in correctly should take less then a hour .... Good thing is ... they realized the mistake was theirs ..... so no charge .....

That's the sort of reason that makes me prefer to do my own work on my car as much as possible, there are certain jobs that need to be done by garages though, and then I am very particular as to who does it.

That is the problem Sparky ... we have no choice ... there is no way we can carrier all the tools necessary ... so we are at the mercy of the closest shop .... and their ignorance ...

SU spent 8 hours in the shop yesterday getting all this straightened out ... also got the ABS system fixed on the trailer .... less than 200 miles and it is flashing codes again ... So now he is headed up into a snow storm with no ABS system ... and it is the weekend with no place open to fix it ...

Life is a BITCH ... sometimes ... lol

41 and 44 .... the light stays on continuous with the truck running and with the switch off ,,, the light also comes on continuous as long as I step on the brake ,,,,

I ran the trailer 2 thousand miles .... some 75 mph in WY .... jacked up the rear axle and all the wheels seem tight and normal .....

I know there are thousands of trailers out there with out ABS ... I just tend to be a little anal when it comes to my shit being right ... Thanks Woody

OK, the first thing I'd check is the wiring to the sensors and the trailer for broke wires and-or corrosion in connectors. Since they are on all the time, it's possible that there is a bad connection. It's also possible that they screwed-up the sensors when the did the work on the mechanical brakes. Also check for bad grounds at the sensors.

Do you know what kind of ABS system you have? Truck or trailer based, and the manufacturer? That would help on identifying the codes.

They figured out the type by the set up ..... Only the rear axle has ABS .... but they never told me the name or what the codes meant ...

I reset the new sensors they put in...... ..... pushed them to zero clearance then moved the trailer .... Unplugged and replugged both cables at the control box and to the sensors .....

Took the tape off the out side of the bundle they made by-passing the plug from the the nose- pig-tail cable to the cable to the box... I did not undo each wire ... but when they first cut the plug out ... striped the wires .. the guy never took the time to mark which wire went to which wire ..... He should have done it one wire at a time .....I figured I needed a break here a took a walk ... when I got back ... he had it done ...

I replaced my pig tail from tractor to trailer .... with no effect ...

The trailer went a couple of hours after they fixed it before the light came back on
the problem could be in the tractor .... but when they hooked a dummy control box to the trailer ... it creates the same results .....

It's possible that he mixed-up the wires, but normally they are different colours.

I am having a tendancy to agree with you, it's very likley that it's in the tractor wiring. Maybe the tractor plug?
